Illustrationism 2013

Last week was the Sheridan Illustrationism show at 99 Sudbury in Toronto. We rented the gallery space and each of the 80 students exhibited their work. The show was one of the best experiences I've had to date, having so many creative people all in one room felt amazing. I'm posting a picture of my personal work from the show below. You can also check out the Sheridan Grad website here!

Also shown below is a book that I wrote and illustrated about accidents. The story is very personal and I hope that you all have a chance to take a peak. You can also check out a preview of the book + purchasing info here!

The Fall

Over the last few months I've been working on my first illustrated book. It was a huge learning experience for me and I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it! Basically the story is based on a personal experience I had and how I was able to deal with the changes in my life over the years. It's very personal but I've finally been able to put into words (and pictures) all the things that a fall can change in a person's life.

Cinch Jeans

Working on my final branding work for Cinch Jeans. I've really enjoyed this project from start to finish. This bag will come with a Cinch Box made from recycled paper - the jeans fit inside the reusable box!

The Fall

I've been working on some exciting things recently, one of which happens to be a book. I have a passion for writing that I decided to turn into a personal project about my experiences with falling. At the suggestion of one of my professors I went in a different direction than I initially intended and the book became something very personal for me. I'm getting close to finally completing the book so I thought I would post some process of my work before I get it printed.

Cinch Jeans Branding

Completed branding assignment for Cinch Jeans - including logotype, hang tag and copy.

More Wuthering Heights Process

This is a piece I'm working on for Wuthering Heights. I'm really happy with the process I took to get this piece to the point it's at now. I made lots of revisions to the initial idea in order to make this work the way I initially envisioned. One more pass and I think it should be ready to go!

Brave New World.

This is another process piece for the novel Brave New World. My process for this piece included painting the background and all the elements separately, scanning and assembling in Photoshop.

On a side note, I've been neglecting my blog but I'm hoping to get all my thesis process work up in the next couple of weeks!

Reincarnation

This is a cover illustration that I did for Shakespeare's Hamlet.   I really enjoyed working on this piece because it was a great opportunity to experiment with media - this is charcoal, conte, acrylic and photoshop.

Macbeth

Another book cover, this one is for Macbeth.

Brave New World

This is one of my most recent pieces for a collection of book covers I'm working on. This cover is for Brave New World and it was a long process to get it to this point. I've found a new love for acrylic paint and this piece is a mixture of digital and acrylic that I worked on in photoshop.

Rebranding

This is a series of designs I did for a rebranding project. The idea behind this was to create a new identity for an already existing brand. I chose to recreate the identity by focusing on a particular audience and researching what these people would expect from their jeans. My thought process for this project included researching types of cars, jobs, activities, books and interests this target audience would have. This helped me to build an understanding of how these people would live and what would be appealing to them as consumers.

Wuthering Heights Cover

This is a piece I did based on the novel Wuthering Heights. For my thesis this year I've been focusing on dual meanings and images in my work - in this image I used animals to evoke emotion. This piece was a long process for me and I'm so happy that I've finally worked it up to a stage that I'm happy with! More thesis work on the way!!!!
